Question?
Explain what a microformat is. Describe using hCard format as a code example.

Answer
Micro formats are small patterns of HTML used to represent commonly published things like people, events, blog posts, reviews and tags in web pages.
Microformats enable the publishing of higher quality information on the web and are designed for humans first and machines second.
Micro formats are a set of simple open data formats build upon existing and widely adopted standards.
Instead of throwing away what works today micro formats are intended to solve simple problems.

ARE
A way of thinking about data
Design principles for formats
Adapted to current behaviours and usage patterns

ARE NOT
A new language
Infinitely extensible and open ended
An attempt to get everyone to change their behaviour and rewrite their tools.
A whole new approach that throws away what already works today

HCard is a simple format that helps implement the vCard format in HTML
This is done simply by defining existing information with vCard style class names
Use the “fn” class to indicate that this your “format name”
<span class=“fn”martin francis</span>

Wrap it all up in the vCard and the vCard class declares everything inside is the hCard microformat.

<span class=“vcard”>
<span class=“fn”>martin francis</span>
</span>

Based on the idea of making web pages POSH

Which is about:–-
Eliminate anorexic anchors
Fix bed and breakfast markup
Use semantic class and id names
Use table just for tabular data not for presentation.
